Doctors

Dr Amy Lee

I trained in London and York. I have been a partner at the practice since 2001 and my special interests at work are mental health, substance misuse, learning disabilities, safeguarding, care home work and team work. I live in Grange over Sands. My interests outside of work are family walks, bike rides and trips in an old campervan. I also enjoy Yoga and running Cartmel Beaver Scouts with my husband Paul.

Dr Emma Jones

I joined the practice in April 2013 and became a partner here in September 2014.  I trained in Oxford and moved to Stockport for my early hospital jobs and initial GP training.  I am involved in training the next generation of GPs and supervise our GP trainees.  I find at the moment our young family tend to occupy most of my time!

Dr Kate Done

I have been with Captain French Surgery since April 2014, previously working in another local practice. In the past I have worked in Africa and Asia with a medical charity, Medecins sans Frontieres. I am interested in teaching medical students and teach part time at the university. My other interests include children’s health, joint injections, and mental health problems. Outside of work I enjoy outdoor swimming and walking our dog in the hills.

Dr Shawn Gibson

I Qualified from Newcastle University in 2007 and then worked in North Cumbria before moving to Australia for a couple of years.  I then came back to the UK and worked in Manchester before moving back to Cumbria where I have family.  I enjoy the variety of General Practice but particularly enjoy doing Minor Surgery and seeing Dermatology and ENT problems.  Outside of work I enjoy Running and Mountain Biking and spending time with my young family.

Dr Ruth Bowman

I joined the practice in 2015 having worked in several practices in the area. My specialist areas are Women’s Health (gynaecology and contraception) and Musculoskeletal Medicine (joint and soft tissue problems) including Sports Injuries and joint injections. This keeps me busy with so many active people living in Kendal enjoying the delights of the Lake District. I’m amongst them, you’ll often find me on a mountain bike, road bike or a windsurfer. I enjoy creativity, I’m as happy with a cement mixer as my potter’s wheel!

Dr Melissa Lovett

I grew up in South Africa and studied medicine at The University of the Witwatersrand. I moved to the UK in 2010 and completed my GP training in Manchester and Kendal. I became a partner at Captain French in 2017. My special interests include women’s health, contraception and minor surgery. I live in Kendal with my husband, two young sons and our dog. When I get the chance I enjoy gardening, running, swimming and Pilates.
