DR SHAWN GIBSON

I Qualified from Newcastle University in 2007 and then worked in North Cumbria before moving to Australia for a couple of years. I then came back to the UK and worked in Manchester before moving back to Cumbria where I have family. I enjoy the variety of General Practice but particularly enjoy doing Minor Surgery and seeing Dermatology and ENT problems. Outside of work I enjoy Running and Mountain Biking and spending time with my young family.

DR RUTH BOWMAN

I joined the practice in 2015 having worked in several practices in the area. My specialist areas are Women’s Health (gynaecology and contraception) and Musculoskeletal Medicine (joint and soft tissue problems) including Sports Injuries and joint injections. This keeps me busy with so many active people living in Kendal enjoying the delights of the Lake District. I’m amongst them, you’ll often find me on a mountain bike, road bike or a windsurfer. I enjoy creativity, I’m as happy with a cement mixer as my potter’s wheel!

DR HEATHER WALKER

I joined Captain French Surgery in September 2018. I am Kendalian born and bred, I moved away for a while to attend medical school in Cardiff and completed the first part of my GP training in Hereford. I returned to Kendal in 2013 with my Welsh husband and we now have two daughters. My special interests are women’s health, contraception and sexual health. Outside of work, you’ll find me at my happiest when I’m swimming in a lake.

DR MELISSA LOVETT

I grew up in South Africa and studied medicine at The University of the Witwatersrand. I moved to the UK in 2010 and completed my GP training in Manchester and Kendal. I became a partner at Captain French in 2017. My special interests include women’s health, contraception and minor surgery. I live in Kendal with my husband, two young sons and our dog. When I get the chance I enjoy gardening, running, swimming and Pilates.

DR JESSICA CHRISTIANSEN

I grew up in Bradford and studied medicine at Newcastle. After graduating in 2015 I stayed in the North East to complete my GP training before moving across to Kendal in 2021. Alongside my GP role I work as a specialty doctor at St John’s Hospice 3 days a week, reflecting my interest in palliative care. Outside of work I enjoy running, netball, walking and spending time with my young family.

DR MUHAMMAD SOBAN

Soon after graduating, I moved to the UK in 2018 and worked initially in Emergency Medicine in London. I then switched over to General Practice training and moved up North in 2020. I trained at our very own Captain French Surgery and had a brilliant time. After qualifying as a GP in January 2023, I was very pleased to be able to continue working here. It's early days in my career and I'm looking to develop a special interest in minor surgery, joint injections, and aesthetic medicine. Outside of work I enjoy cooking, poetry, and outdoor activities.
